I have never read anything by Alice Gaines, but I will definitely pick up some of her other books after reading and enjoying this lighthearted romance, Just Once Week. It is a sweet, well written book featuring a smart biochemist, Michelle Dennis, who reunites with her childhood crush and her brother’s best friend, Alex Stafford.
Alex is a football star home for his parent’s anniversary celebration, which Michelle and her brother are also attending. Michelle has always had strong feelings, and Alex hurt her deeply eight years ago. He struggles with guilt over his actions and is looking for a way to make amends. He did not believe he was good enough for his best friend’s little sister back then and still has reasons to be he is still not worthy of her. Michelle is a beautiful nerd, and I love and appreciate a female nerd in a romance. She has not recovered from her and Alex’s falling out or forgiven him for his actions. Michelle goes from hot to cold, but their attraction is explosive and she begins to believe Alex’s apology and understand him.
Just One Week is a fun story without a lot of angst. I was looking for a lighter read that was also a well written romance with some heat, and this definitely fit the bill.
